Underemployment continues to be a pressing concern in the country, currently at 18% a lot of Filipinos wish to earn more for their families but are simply unable to do so due to the lack of proper skills fit for the demands of the job. With the onset of technology, there has been a recent rise in online jobs “supposedly” accessible to all Filipinos that should have addressed the issue of underemployment, unfortunately our current workforce is not ready for the demands of online work particularly in the area of communication and tech know-how. The AKLAT Project (Advocacy for Knowledge-based e-Livelihood And Training) that seeks to bridge the skill gap of the Filipino workforce in the city and more importantly the provinces through communications and technology-based training, giving him the opportunity to choose his preferred online job and at the same time be with his family. From humble beginnings as a small volunteer-driven group AKLAT Foundation has evolved to become a national organization that trains and mentors’ teachers all over the Philippines. AKLAT Foundation, was founded in 2018 by a group of online English teachers hoping to teach deserving individuals online English teaching skills.
